Contact Improvisation |
Contact Improv is a blend of Partner Dance, Aikido, Wrestling, Acrobatics, and Improvisation. It involves being in contact with another body while working with four common themes, weight sharing, counterbalancing, falling and flying. Dancers, while remaining in contact, move with one another in response to creativity, and to the other person's movement. This can happen rolling on the floor, standing on your feet or "flying" which involves one person being lifted into the air. It is playful yet very physcially and mentally engaging. Each moment is alive with possiblity. You never know what's going to happen next. You are dancing with the mystery and are therefore fully arrived in the present moment."
